If you truly think the flag is about heritage (it ain't), it's gonna be your turn to realize that it carries other weight too and it's your responsibility to decide which means more: Other peoples safety and comfort or your expression of heritage.

People who think that that Confederate Flag represents the "Southern States" are severely misinformed.

The Confederate Flag earned its name as the "Rebel Flag" for a reason

The reason the confederate army refused to align and persisted to concede from the USA was due to the recent laws regarding slavery. Many wealthy people from the south started campaigns to display the conflict as "The North opposing Southern heritage".

If you have a brain in your skull and can read you should be able to know that the Confederate flag is no different then the Nazi flag

I'd like to know specifically what garbage we are referring to here. I thought we were having a discussion. The first worthwhile discussion for a grip. As far as the stance on rednecks....The also have a firm stance on gays(even though they backpeddle) and god. Didn't stop them from signing a redneck and doesn't stop me from listening. We don't have to subscribe to every belief of the music we listen to no more than being a southern redneck makes you a racist.

You don't have to wave a rebel flag to be a bigot and not everybody who does is one. You cant tell me what the hatchetman means to me and you cant presume to know what that flag means to them.

Guess what? I am a redneck who listens to ICP. I guess it all boils down to what your definition of a redneck is but it really fucking bothers me that you chesyr are putting people in a box based on their geography.  A redneck doesn't equate to a bigot. It just doesn't. There are plenty of bigots up north and out west too who don't wave an insurgent flag. Once again I wanna reiterate that this isn't about a flag.

Just before the tragedy in Charleston the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Texas could deny personalized Confederate Flag license plates. It's based on a difference between individual speech and government speech.

To me flags, cultures, and words are overrated. Actions seem to be more important.

I think individuals should be able to use what ever racist symbols they want. I mean, c'mon, why do you not want racists to be marked? Do you want the racists to be hidden among us?

You are absolutely right. I do not agree with what they are saying but I will fight to the death for their right to say it.

do you feel the same way about groups like NAMBLA? This is absolutely not a facetious question, I am dead curious. I just recall waaay back in junior high when we watched a guy on a video put on his Nazi garb and start proclaiming hate from a busy metro street corner. The point was to start a discussion on freedom of speak, indefinitely. I have always been outspoken on racism and sexism etc, but this class really stuck with me.

I was, and still am, conflicted about it. Most of me wants to say HEY DRAW A LINE HERE! FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR ALL BUT FUCK, THIS GUY IS INCITING A HATEFUL RACE RIOT TO REGULAR WORKING CLASS PEOPLE! MURDER HIM! HARVEST HIS FUCKING ORGANS AND SEND A MESSAGE TO THE REST!.... then I want to think FREEDOM OF SPEECH! HE IS WRONG, 100%, THERE IS NO OPINION ON THAT, BUT GODAMMIT HE DESERVES TO PREACH WHATEVER BULLSHIT HE WANTS, BECAUSE THIS IS EARTH, DAMMIT! NOT JUST AMERICA, BUT EARTH! 

Same for NAMBLA. I want to torture those guys to death for even trying to start that shit up, but we have a right to assemble, no matter what the cause.

Even an Anti-Freedom of Speech Group has the (very ironic) right to promote their feelings.
