I aint scared of shit, just smart. too many locals ripping off tourists, and stealing their shit, and passports. nahh. my friend went out of country and got his passport and wallet stolen, and he was held up there for a month to get his shit squared away. lost his job and everything. and yes Nemo, people do get kidnapped and shit here, but you hear more of that with kids. Overseas, its anyone for ransom money. just sayin. That's me. everyones different.
I've been to Korea, Cameroon, Belgium, and Peru, including some of the poorest areas of Iquitos. Granted, when I was in Peru I was in a group, but as long as you're not stupid no one will steal your shit. I felt more comfortable with my belongings in Cameroon than I do in many places in the U.S., and I bet you would be much more likely to have your shit stolen at GOTJ than in Korea.
That being said, if you don't wanna travel, that's all good. I've just caught the bug and want to keep traveling. Also, I DID get ripped off when I was in Cameroon. When you're white prices are doubled. I got a haircut their and he charged me twice as much because he "wasn't used to my hair." Luckily, it was only like 2 dollars anyway. Basically just stick to places that have their prices posted or go with a local. A girl went with me (we were given a scholarship) and we both went around by ourselves and together all the time and everyone was nice.

i am comfortable with the fact the i will never leave the States, unless its on a cruise, for the simple fact that people hate americans, and ive seen too many movies that involved people kidnapping and holding for ransom. shits real. fuck that.
Dutch people don't hate anybody, they're way too laid the fuck back to hate. The only crime there is petty theft, junkies stealing peoples bikes is about the extent of it. Just don't ride a bike, problem solved. It's pretty funny though, you see people park their bike and lock it, then take the seat off or a wheel and go walkin' down the street like it ain't no thang. Funny as fuck when you're stoned as shit.

I wanna go to Amsterdam for sure one day. I had the chance to a few years ago, I don't know why I passed it up, but I had the chance to venture out in Europe. Had a friend living out in Germany so I had a place to stay but damn. Is flying the only way of getting to Amsterdam? Couldn't you take a boat to get there?

And LTB, if you don't want to leave the country, why are you joining the military? Not hating, just wondering.
Damn good question - that's a primary reason (along with the noble "serving your country" bit, which I respect the hell out of) people enlist in the first place.
I haven't been out of the country yet, but someday I'd like to. Amsterdam would be cool, Ireland, Russia, Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Costa Rica... Quite a few places I'd love to see. Wife has a fear of flying, so I'd have to do it solo, so I'm not sure how much that'd throw a monkey wrench into things. Can't do a whole lot of travelling until I'm sure my son's all set career-wise, so I've got at least 8-10 years left, depending how much college he's able to finish before he graduates high school.
That'll put me at 43... And on my 50th birthday I intend to go skydiving without a chute (long story there, hehe)... So I'll have 7 years to travel before going SPLAT. lol.

Motherfuckers. Lol, I should've known to elaborate further. I said I've never been compelled to leave the states, as in I have no desire to go travelling/vacationing anywhere outside the country. The places I'll inevitably be going in the Marine Corps will be business, not pleasure. I'm not some wide-eyed youngin lookin to join up n "see the world" lol. My reasons for joining are more for carying on in my family's footsteps (Mom & Dad, Older brother, now me. My little brother, as of now, has no desire to carry the torch. I pray he changes his mind, though no one else in my family is pushing him to even consider it so it probably won't happen.), and serving this great nation I love. I want to do my part. Back on point though, it's kind of like my aversion to airplane travel. Fuck airplanes. If I had it my way I'd never set foot in one my whole life, but I'm obviously gonna have to in the Marine Corps. Just the way it is lol.

I went to Amsterdam last year and LOVED it! Weed definitely wasn't the reason I wanted to go there, but obviously you see and smell quite a bit of it while you're there. You'll be walking by an outdoor cafe or walking down the street and catch a whiff of weed. It was a trip.
When I was there, I rented a houseboat in a canal near the Anne Frank House, and it was amazing. I almost felt like a local for a few days since I was staying in a neighborhood, had neighbors and had a full home to stay in. I loved the Van Gogh Museum (I'm a huge Van Gogh fan), the Anne Frank House, the Dutch Resistance Museum...I even visited the sex museum on Damrak, which was actually a well done museum with lots of interesting exhibits! And OMG...Electric Ladyland museum of fluorescent art, which features a walk-through "fluorescent participatory environment" was one of the coolest places I've been! http://electric-lady-land.com/ I thought it was incredibly easy to get around on the trams, and since the city isn't too large, lots of things are within walking distance of each other. It's a very multi-ethnic city, and a city that is very used to foreign tourists, so I never felt unsafe. Even being a female who was traveling alone, I never felt in danger at all.
I would really, really encourage anyone who thinks they may want to go to Amsterdam to just do it. It's not cheap to get there, but damn it was one of the coolest places I've ever been. But please don't just go to get high. There is so much more to the city than that, and you will short change yourself if you don't experience all the other cool stuff the city offers.

I found the Anne Frank house to be quite sobering. It's a total downer, but it was cool to see and be in a place that is so historical. Place made me sad as hell though. My suggestion of putting in a water slide at the end to cheer people up was not well received either. You try to lighten up a situation, you know? Sheesh.
I disagree about the not getting high part though. Sorry. Amsterdam has the best weed and hash on the planet, and not indulging in them is like going to a famous steakhouse and just ordering a salad. You can still see all the cool shit you just said high, and still have an appreciation for it, which is why I disagree. But hey, to each their own. Definitely one of the coolest places I've ever been to, and I will definitely go back one day.

what best coffer shops and worst?
In my opinion, the best is Barney's. Amazing bud like Tangerine Dream, vapes on every table, nice staff, good times. Utopia's a hidden gem, as well. Tiny place with some great Amnesia Haze, GREAT staff, good prices, relaxed vibe. Just avoid the hostel upstairs; I stayed there, and it was pretty rotten. Bedbugs, dead rodents...pretty rough scene. Dolphin's downstairs area is fun. And I found myself chilling at Hunter's a lot, for some reason.
Worst for me goes to The Bulldog. Commercialized, over-priced, rude staff, mediocre bud.
As for price, it'd be in the area of $1000 round trip flight, depending on where you fly out of. Hostels are cheap as fuck, if you're okay with that.

The Grand Canyon, Yellow Stone, Rocky mountains, the Hoe Rain-forest... ect. i'm an out doorsy kinda guy so i could just plan to go fishing in all 48 mainland states and be set on vacation plans for most of my adult life.

I remember I told a guy I didn't plan on joining the military and he called me a coward. It pissed me off. Just because I am not actively signing up to kill or be killed, doesn't mean if I HAD to (i.e. a draft was instated) I wouldn't. Although, that would really depend too. If they instated a draft for some bullshit, I probably wouldn't have it. Nothing about fear, just don't want to go and kill motherfuckers for the wrong reason.
Props to you for joining the Marines, but you have to remember not everyone is like you, if your brother doesn't want to join the military he doesn't have to. He probably has other talents he can share with the world.

I can understand this, the USA is a big country. There is a lot to do here.
More than anything, I like experiencing the things you CAN'T experience here. The culture and the language (though I've yet to master a second langauge) and that sort of thing. I mean, I was able to eat dog, and it was pretty fuckin' fresh! (to quote the dude from Freek Show.)
Different strokes for different folks is all.
