WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County’s very own Wiked Wood music group is getting the chance of a lifetime to perform at the 18th annual Gathering of the Juggalos in Oklahoma City.

The four-day music event, July 26-29, was made famous by the Insane Clown Posse, who will once again be the star of the show. ICP has sold over 5 million albums throughout their recording career with two albums that reached platinum sales levels and two others that reached gold.

Other major artists on this year’s music schedule also includes P.O.D., Waka Flocka Flame, Vanilla Ice, Dope, Kissing Candice and Mushroomhead.

Wiked Wood is comprised of Zac Graves (Cray-Z), Rob Sawyer (Creep) and Chris Lainhart (Grave Bait).

Graves has been performing and recording music since he was 12-years-old and was able to sign his first distribution deal in 2006 at the age of 16.

For Lainhart, he has been performing since 2006 with various music groups, but hit it big with Wiked Wood rapping with the group in 2013 at the group’s album release party for Red Carpet Status.

“I’ve been rocking with them every since,” Lainhart added.

Every band always has a set group of influences throughout their careers, not just music, but also personal stories as well.

“As far as sound goes, I am heavily influenced by Industrial Music and 90’s Trip/Glitch-hop. My themes and lyrics are inspired from my own struggles and observations of life,” Lainhart said.

“I definitely have a strong influence from 90’s hip-hop, but still remain extremely eclectic with my music influences. I strive to create a unique sound and mix up all of the styles of the emcees that I consider to be ‘The Greats’,” Graves said.

Wiked Wood has been a popular group, especially over the last couple of years, playing shows all over the country.

“The past two years have been non-stop for us, playing every other week headlining shows back-to-back and opening for national acts like Insane Clown Posse, Hopsin, Potluck, Kung Fu Vampire, Bubba Sparxxx, Zug Izland, Judah Priest of Wu-Tang Clan and more,” Graves said.

Fans of the group are treated to music that is crafted by a trio of guys that have a genuine love and passion for sharing their music with the world.

“I just hope to inspire other artists in the way that I myself was inspired as a young person, and to keep the music alive for another generation. When I was young, music in school was much grander than it is now, and I feel like that is a tragic thing,” said Lainhart.

For Graves, he said that he hopes their music brings positive vibes to an entirely too negative world.

“I want to make music that my kids can look back at after I am gone and be like ‘Dad knew what was up’ and create that legacy. Even with all the darkness in our genre, I want to shed some light.”

After the Gathering of the Juggalos event, Wiked Wood will be right back on the road again, including shows in Spartanburg, S.C. with Jelly Roll and Jarren Benton on Aug. 17 and KeeperFest 2017 in Northwood, Ohio on Aug. 19. The band will come back to their roots on Oct. 20 to play at Helen’s Sports Bar & Grill and then head to Greensboro to play with Dope and Hed PE at Arizona Pete’s on Oct. 24.
