Insane Clown Posse comes to Houston in the middle of clown hysteria

From Chon:

On Wednesday night, long-running Detroit rap duo the Insane Clown Posse made its annual appearance in Houston at Warehouse Live in front of hundreds of Juggalos, which is what their religiously-devoted fan base are called.

Right about now, pop-culture is all awash in violent clown hysteria, so there has been some renewed interest in the works of Faygo-soaked Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J.

The group has been performing every cut from its 1995 album “The Riddle Box” on its current tour, to the delight of longtime ICP fans.

Recently, TIME magazine, of all outlets, reached out to the group to ask them what they thought about pranksters in clown makeup scaring the heck out of people across the country.Truth be told, ICP’s imagery is more demented and based in reality than what a bunch of idiots in store-bought Bozo costumes dish out.

Violent J penned a lengthy take on the current ridiculousness. The rapper flipped the script and instead wrote that America as we know it is a lot scarier than it once was when even he was a kid, never mind a bunch of clowns in cheap greasepaint trying to spook suburbanites.

Pointing out police brutality, NSA spying, and his fans own fight with the FBI’s National Gang Threat Assessment (which has labeled them a violent gang), J was clear and thoughtful in his words.

“From keystone-cop clowns shooting unarmed citizens, to racist clowns burning down Islamic centers or clowns in the NSA spying on us through our cell phones and laptops, America has turned into something far more terrifying than Insane Clown Posse’s Dark Carnival,” he wrote.

“Even a scrub like me who dropped out of school in ninth grade can see what’s going on. Today’s reality is scarier than anything you’ll ever hear on one of our albums,” he continues. He said that the constant harassment of the group’s fans by police officers is usually done for little to no reason.

“Despite these sensationalized reports about “killer clowns” wreaking mischief across the nation, there are real clowns out there killing ours and your very rights as an American citizen,” J concluded.

The whole thing is worthy of a read.
