Pre-Gathering Interview with Bukshot

I had the privilege of knocking out an interview with Mobstyle Music founder and artist, Bukshot! Even as he prepared, packed, and got everything ready for the Gathering he took time out to show the Family love and answer a few questions that have been on all of our minds going into our Juggalo Mecca.

Juggalotus: You just announced on Twitter the other day you are giving away a double cd titled “17 Exclusive” at your autograph tent but is limited to 100 copies.  Is there a track list you can share for this album?

Bukshot: As of right now, all I’m going to say is that it’s a double disc CD, and the first one hundred people in line at my autograph signing on Thursday at the GOTJ are gonna get one FREE! There’s more than just CD’s in those cases but I like surprises to be just that – surprises!

J: Can you tell us who may be featured on that album, if anyone?

B: I’ll give you one feature just to tease you (and there are several) but my homie Lo Key is rocking one out with me on a song called Crawling.

J: You also announced a brand new 7 track EP being released at the Gathering titled “Assimilation.” It was produced by Seven and includes a ton of features.  How difficult was it to organize all of those people and get this project done?

B: In all honesty, and I know a lot of people are going to give me shit for this, but my original plan was to have my “Weirdo” project that I’ve been working on forever done for the GOTJ. That damn thing is almost finished too! But I was laying around on the couch watching TV and this documentary was on about the whole Jim Jones cult movement back in 1978 and I was totally intrigued by it. I mean, I knew the story a little bit, but not nearly as much detail as I had just found out watching this documentary. Then within a couple of hours I was so inspired by the story that I had all these ideas flooding into my head about it, that I decided to do a theme inspired project about it… and that is where Assimilation came from. I guess I was working on this project for about three months before completion. I hit up my homie Seven and told him my vision for the project and he was totally on deck producing it. So, you got seven bangers for this project and he killed every one of them! Originally, this project was not going to have many features at all on it, but as I started vibing & writing to the tracks- they just started calling out to other people in my head so I started reaching out to a lot of my other artist homies in the underground to jump on these songs with me, and the end result was Assimilation! I will say that this is a very dark project. When I was writing and recording this project, mentally I was going through some very dark times and it clearly shows in the music. This project was very therapeutic for me for many reasons and I’m sure and I hope it will be for a lot of the fans listening to it as well.

J: Your fans have patiently been waiting for the release of “Weirdo.” What kind of timeline are they looking at until it drops?

B: I know I have said this before, but I totally plan on not working on anything else musically until Weirdo is finished. I promise every body it will be worth the wait though!

J: Are there still features that you can spill the beans on here?

B: I definitely will have a few surprises up my sleeve like I normally do, but right now on Weirdo, I have songs with Tech N9ne, Violent J, Madchild, Rittz, Jelly Roll, Krizz Kaliko, Lil Wyte, & Crucifix.

J: What can you tell us about working with a legendary producer like Seven Summers?

B: Seven is my dawg! Not only is he one of the illest producers in the game right now, but he’s definitely the homie too! It seems like him and I talk about the shows we watch and video games more than music. But I know we have so much in common, and that’s why we are always on the same page WITH the music. That dude brings fire to every track he touches and he is straight scorching tracks! That man has produced for so many big names in the music business that his own name speaks for itself! Not trying to throw shade on any other producer out there, but I don’t think that anybody is touching him right now. He is truly an enigma in the production world.

J: You are performing on the Big Top Stage this year!  How excited are you to return to the Gathering and blow up the stage once again?

B: I’m definitely excited! This is my 5th Gathering in a row but it will be my first time on the Main Stage and I am more than ready for it! The last Gathering I performed at, I only did Underground Avengers so I am definitely ready to do the solo thing again for all my Juggalos out there! Hell, I AM a fucking Juggalo so this feels like a homecoming to me! What’s better than rocking the fucking main stage at the GOTJ in front of your own people?! NOTHING! I’m very humbled, honored and blessed to be in this position! I can’t wait to step out on that stage Thursday night to show every body what I have in store for them! I will be rocking everybody’s favorite songs, even some new songs, as well as a few tricks up my sleeve! Hell, it’s the Gathering so you never know what or who is going to pop up right? lol

J: For those who haven’t seen your live performance what should they expect?

B: Well, generally my performances are done at night time and I like to incorporate a few stage theatrics and what not into my set, but when and where I’m performing, it will still be pretty damn sunny and the stage is so huge that instead of resorting to typical stage props, I’m just gonna come out there with the mic, my music, and a whole bunch of heart on my sleeve and try to wow my people with that!

J: Is Mobstyle currently searching for new artists?  If so how can they get in touch with you guys?

B: As of right now, I’m the only artist primarily on the roster. We’re not really looking for anyone as of right now, but if the right artist and right situation presented itself, you never know what could happen! As far as contact, our website www.mobstylemusic.com and all of my social media outlets, which is @bukshizzle for all of them.

J: You seem to always be busy doing shows, touring, and working in the studio.  Can you announce any tours or shows you are a part of after the Gathering?

B: I have had a few artists contact me about doing a fall run, and I’m just waiting for the right situation to present itself, but if everything goes as planned, hopefully the fans should see me out in several cities very soon!

J: You have become a very well known name in the Juggalo world.  Can you let us in on your first exposure to the Juggalos?

B: I’ve actually been down since I randomly picked up a copy of ICP – Ringmaster on the shelf when it first came out in the early 90’s, but I’ve been a Juggalo since Riddlebox. I love the underground & the Juggalos for everything that it is! Fuck everybody and anybody who isn’t us! Underground forever!!! See y’all at the GOTJ!!!

There you have it Juggalos and Juggalettes!  Bukshot is headed to Legend Valley to party with the Fam!  Make sure you check out his set on the Big Top Stage Thursday Night.

Dope can’t wait to hear the double album and Assimilation EP. I’d like to see a Bukshot/Freddy Grimes collab, that’d be awesome.
