ICP ‘stoked’ over Barrie show from TheBarrieExaminer.com

I have a feeling all this Canadian press for ICP’s Canadian tour isn’t even close to being over. I mean… look at this shit and they haven’t even played a show yet!
A ninjette named Susan Doolan from The Barrie Examiner wrote up a nice lil’ article about the Wicked Clowns that includes a few words from your friend and mine, Shaggs 2 Dope.
They speak on how ICP hasn’t been able to enter Canada for over a decade due to some legal issues, their stint in wrestling, the origin of their rap names and what they’ve been up to musically, recently.
It’s a pretty decent read.

Insane Clown Posse marks its first Canadian tour in more than a decade. The Detroit rap duo lands in Barrie for their first show here next week.

“We’re so excited about it – get to see all these new places, people – we’re stoked,” said Shaggy 2 Dope aka Joseph Utsler, who wasn’t allowed in to the country for a long time because of a criminal record and probation. “We finally got our legal problems settled – for a long time (I) couldn’t stay out of trouble – sick of being on probation, court (visits and) restrictions. Instead of punching something in the face you gotta take a step back.”

Music has been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. It led him to professional wrestling and it continued throughout his time fighting with the WWF, WCW and other organizations.

Over the years the duo has released numerous records, sold more than 6.5 million records, two platinum and five gold albums, and garnered a huge following of fans who call themselves Juggalos. Each year there is a Gathering of Juggalos Music Festival which features numerous well known bands.

Their latest record, The Missing Link, was released two years ago. Their sound has also evolved – some like the changes, some don’t, and their musicality makes it difficult for record stores to know where to place them. For the duo, making music is a very hands-on process.

Their names came out of gangs they were involved in when they were young – they left the gangs behind but kept their names in part because, some 20 years ago when they were starting out in Detroit, everyone had a gimmick.

In his non-musical life, he is married to his second wife and they are expecting a child. Currently he has four children ranging in age from 19 year old twin boys to a 1-1/2 year old. He enjoys spending time with his family, camping and watching movies.

Catch Insane Clown Posse at the Roxy Theatre, 46 Dunlop St. W., on Wednesday, June 29, 8 p.m. Tickets are available at ticketweb.ca.
