Before I start writing this show review, I want to give a little back story on how I ended up attending this show.  I confirmed with Polmar that I was able to attend the upcoming 607 Family Gathering He released a flyer with my name on it. I ended up posting it on my photography page.

That post was shared and led to Reapz Rott of It That Betrays hitting me up. We ended up talking for a short time and discussed doing some photo stuff at the 607 Family Gathering. A short time after that, I found out that It That Betrays had an upcoming show in my area.  So my wife, a friend and I decided to check them out live.

The show took place on February 27th in Troy, New York at the River City Pub. The show was promoted as Indie Rock and Hip Hop Night. We arrived shortly before doors were scheduled to open.

Our homie CJ was at the door waiting for us. After a couple people finished their cigarettes, we headed inside. Once inside we met up with Stalks and Reapz (It That Betrays). They introduced me to one of their friends and producers, Evilist. I ended up purchasing their self-titled EP so I could listen to it on my way home.

For the next couple of hours we all just chilled, discussing a few different projects that we all have coming up.

Unfortunately, the four performers that were on before them were, how do a say this politely…karaoke singers. All four performers were just one guy with his guitar performing a mixture of cover songs and original material. I will say the last guy was somewhat funny with a few of his songs.

At around 11 p.m. it was time for It That Betrays to hit the stage, so I quickly pulled out my camera and GoPro and got to work snapping photos and filming the full set. During the first couple of songs, they were having trouble with the microphones not wanting to work correctly. Stalks and Reapz were trying there best to raise their voices in order to perform, but it got to the point where the mics stopped working completely.

The same thing happened a couple nights before at the Whitney Peyton show. After the microphones were fixed, they hit the stage with a fury! Belting out track after track with fierce, and sometimes emotional lyrics. You could easily tell that they knew how to rock a stage. After about 20 minutes or so, they concluded their set with a song entitled, “Bastards.” By the end of the song, the entire crowd was singing the chorus.

After they performed we all hung out for at least an hour or so discuss a bunch of random topics and tried to teach my wife, Linzie and our friend Heather how to shoot pool. At around 12:45 a.m. we all went our separate ways. As my crew hopped into my car for the ride home, I popped in the It That Betray album and headed for my house.

Truth be told if you know me in the Faygoluvers forum or else where, you know I do not suggest any music to anyone. This will be the time I break my own rule…you should definitely check out It That Betrays.

I want to thank Stalks, Reapz, Evilist, and the whole ITB crew for a great night! Keep an eye out for my interview with the Stalks and Reaps to be posted in the near future.

Until then, you can check out the gallery of photos and video I captured at their show, at the following links:
