This was the first time a Funk Volume tour rolled through Billings, Montana and their fans were more than starved waiting for them to finally play their city. You could tell by just looking into their eyes the fans couldn’t wait any longer for the lyrics of Funk Volume to fill their empty Hip-Hop bellies. As the fans were waiting to get inside the Babcock Theater, Hopsin was skateboarding around outside and bonded with his fans. Finally, the doors were opened and the fans rushed to the front of the stage and started chanting “Funk Volume!” In between sets, they played hilarious skits of each artist,that all connected together in one big mini-movie. First was Jarren Benton on the run from some thugs he owed money too and hiding out at a gym, which went to Dizzy Wright smoking up all the thugs weed in the bathroom, then went straight to Hopsin being denied by a girl in yoga class. A frustrated Hopsin ends up in the bathroom and gets a massive contact high from Dizzy smoking. Hopsin starts tripping hard and starts eating the toilet paper, thinking it’s food and huddles around a trashcan, mistaking it for the girl in yoga class. Funny indeed! Hopefully these skits get released on DVD soon! All the Funk Volume fans need to see these skits!

First to murder the stage was Jarren Benton. Wow! I’ve never seen an artist with such high energy before! It was beyond impressive! Billings, Montana more than welcomed him with open arms and went ape shit right when Benton hit the stage. The crowd energy for Mr. Benton kept massively increasing throughout his set, especially with the help of the ever-so talented DJ Hoppa and live drummer Black Fist (who also killed it on stage!).

The highlight of Jarren’s performance was during the track “Skitzo”. Jarren pulled 17 year old Billings Rapper, MaYsiN Killuminati (Mason Gann) on stage to perform the song together. It was the first time ever that Jarren and MaYsin performed with each other. If you didn’t know better, you would think the two rappers had performed “Skitzo” a bunch of times together. Their stage presence they brought forth was flawless and perfectly in-sync. It got the crowd hype too! Smart move on Jarren bringing the young emcee to the stage. Close to the end of Benton’s set, he welcomed a bunch of fans on stage during “Gimme The Loot”. They all grooved out together and huddled around DJ Hoppa while he scratched his ass off. Perfect way to close out the set! Montana hopes Mr. Benton will come back on his own tour.

Note: A few of the songs in the set were from Jarren’s brand new release, the “Slow Motion EP”, including the singles “You Don’t Know Me” and “Alladat“. He also performed a few tracks from his previous efforts including “Cadillac and Chevy’s” and “Billion Bucks”.

Dizzy Wright had the crowd pretty much worshipping him when he came out. It was right when he burst out on stage with “State of Mind” that all the weed lovers united and screamed for Dizzy. A few peeps in the audience even started bowing down. Just like Benton, the Babcock Theater got more crazy as Dizzy’s set went on. Without any marijuana on stage it wouldn’t be a Dizzy Wright show. So of course during Mr. Wright’s major weed songs, he busted out the joints and even offered the audience some. I give Dizzy major props for being brave on stage and lighting up in a state where it’s illegal. He truly gave no fucks and will always show his pro “Marijuana Pride” everywhere he goes on tour. How can you not respect that?! The most hype track during Dizzy’s set was “Turn Up”…the fans flipped the fuck out! Come back to Montana soon, Dizzy!

Note: A majority of the set set was composed of songs from “The Growing Process”, but, Dizzy also played a few fan favorite throwbacks like “Can’t Trust Em” and “Solo Dolo”.

The girls went Beatlemania for Hopsin! Before he even started his set, girls kept screaming on how hot he was and I even heard one lady saying she wanted to have sex with him on stage in front of everyone! Crazy shit! Hopsin kicked off the night with the “Pound Intro” and the crowd roared like vikings storming onto the battlefield. The die hard fans went all out and probably couldn’t even speak for a few days from losing their voices due to shouting every lyric to every song Hopsin played that night. The young emcee beyond delivered as the headlining act and more than gave it his all the entire night! He was constantly moving and jumped around on stage like a crazed lunatic through the entire evening.

Jarren Benton jumped on stage to perform “Ramona” with Hopsin, and the excitement level literally went through roof of the Babcock Theater! The roof may need to be repaired after that performance! The audience fell silent during “FV Till I Die” because fans couldn’t believe what they were witnessing. Hopsin poured out so much emotion during that track, it was as if a giant cup of his emotions spilled out onto the stage floor and the audience was swimming in a sea of his emotions. People’s jaws dropped to the floor on some classic cartoon shit. If only SwizZz was there to do the track too.

The most hype the crowd got for the young emcee was during “Kill Her”. Throughout the night Hop yelled “Fuck Ruthless Records!” many times, but he really stated his distaste towards Ruthless right before “Kill Her” kicked in. As Hopsin got towards the end of expressing his hate towards Ruthless, you could feel the crowd getting ready to lose their minds and they did just that! They exploded into a lyrical rage together and rapped every word to “Kill Her” in perfect harmony. I bet even Eminem could feel the energy of the crowd, all the way in Detroit, Michigan. Hopsin showed a lot of appreciation to everyone showing up and thanked the fans for all their support. Overall, Hopsin is a true emcee and Billings, Montana already can’t wait to see him live here again!

Note: Hopsin performed songs mostly from his latest release “Pound Syndrome”, but he also played a mixture of old and new songs too, including “Sag My Pants” and “Ill Mind 4”.
