A Russian-American rapper, based out of Denver, Colorado. Scum is known for mixing horror themed and extremely violent lyrics with a more bouncy, hip hop beat selection that’s non-traditional to horrorcore. His music is commonly labeled as GoreHop.

Scum’s career began in 1996 when he moved from Moscow, Russia to Denver, CO and became involved in an experimental grind/noise project known as Down Syndrome. The band put out 3 tapes in 1996-1998 before disbanding shortly after their third and final release. From there, he joined forces with his brother and became involved in a variety of underground rap projects (DL, Underground Cult, LnG) that all shared violent themes and highly offensive lyrics. Most of those only released demos and mixtapes although LnG (a duo featuring Scum) did drop a full length in 2002 making it Scum’s first pro-pressed CD. After the release, Sevill persuaded Scum to go solo and aside from a few side projects he was a part of (4 Horsemen in 2006, Hate Magnet in 2008, and MMMFD in 2013, and putting out albums with 4 Horsemen and MMMFD) that’s exactly what Scum has been doing ever since. Releasing 10 solo albums to date.

Scum has performed with numerous national rap and metal acts, traveled the country back and forth hitting new cities along with his prime markets on every tour along with a variety of spot dates and festivals such as The Gathering Of The Juggalos (5 times) , Bury The Living (8 times), Strictly For The Wicked, Hell On Earth, WestCoast Wickedfest, Minnesotta Mayhem, Soundsick Fest and many more. He also founded and headlines every GoreFest and Black Xmas, Colorado’s biggest annual horrorcore fests both on its 9th year running and drawing fans from all over the country and growing in attendance every year.

Track list and ratings

Snuff HD- A dark and nasty beat here. It is hard for a listener not to bob their head along with the beat. The hook is immediately catchy and easy to get down with. The verses are without a doubt heavy Horrorcore as has become standard for Scum. 4.3/5

Not Alike- A very heavy beat with some nice backing sounds. The verses are well done and flow nicely with the beat. The hook is more complex than the first track but it works here. 3.7/5

The Last Gorehican- Another banger of a beat drives this track. Gorehop to the fullest here. The verses flow with the beat once again but it is nice to see Scum be able to modify his flow to match any and every beat here. A decent hook rounds this one out. 4.5/5

Just a Victim- Nice bells back a heavy beat. The hook is very catchy in this one. The verses tell an interesting series of tales of murders. 3.5/5

Pigs Ft Insane Poetry- Electric strings back a dark beat and push the tracks tone. Insane Poetry gives listeners a solid effort here. This track has a little less “gore” than previous ones but it works well. 3.7/5

Lost Childhood- A nice string backing to this dark beat. The verses tell a very dark and harsh story of a childhood lost. The hook is very well done and flow well with the theme here. A very solid track here. 4.5/5

Devil Ft Esham & Q Strange- The intro here is from Devils Advocate, a nice way to start any track. A lot slower flow in this track but it makes the lyrics stand out better. Esham gives a solid second verse here. Q Strange finishes the track off with a decent verse. Overall the hook, beat and track all work really well here. Nice to see Esham and Q on this one. 4.3/5

Bloodthirst- Another slow plodding beat but it has a nice accompaniment in the background. The verses flow well with the beat and it works. The hook is simple but effective here. 3.8/5

Scream Ft Geno Cultshit- This beat is a banger. It flows well and has a good hard hitting bass on it. The hook is very different than any other on the album thus far and that is ok. Geno gives a solid performance in the second verse. Another solid track. 4/5

Drowning- The beat here is similar to several others on this album but still stands alone and doesn’t seem repetitive. The verses are once again really solid and work well with the beat. The hook is solid and helps the track flow. 4.2/5

For the Fuck of It Ft Smallz One- A slow melodic beat drives this track. Scum keeps his flow in time with the beat as has become custom on this album. Smallz One gives a good verse and adds her flavor to this one. The hook is very well done here. 3.8/5

I Don’t Wanna Hurt You- This beat is very unique and gives a nice change of vibe to the album. Scum flows quickly and shows his lyrical skills in the verses. The hook offsets the verses by being slower and more in time with the beat. Overall a nice shift in the album. 4.4/5

Basement Hell Ft Damien Quinn- A much more gritty beat leads this track. It is stripped down and simple but allows the verses to stand on their own. The hook is also very simple. Damien Quinn gives a very solid verse that adds a unique sound here. 4/5

Disgusting- This beat doesn’t really stand out in the album. It is far too similar to other from earlier. The hook and verses leave a lot to be desired here. 2.8/5

Fucked Up Sense Of Humor Ft Liquid Assassin & Donnie Menace- Another string heavy backing in this beat. Scum flows quicker in his verse which is needed to stand with Liquid Assassin and Donnie Menace here. A really good hook finishes this one off well. 4.6/5

No More Mr. Nice Guy- A complex beat adds another change of pace here. The verses are well written and performed. The hook is dope and easy to get down with. 4.2/5

Knife to Your Throat Ft Boondox- A slow and more old school beat is found here. Scum flows with the beat in this one and it works. Boondox adds a very slow verse and his vocals are a little underwhelming. A decent track but far from one of the best on the album. 3.4/5

Neva Caught- The beat here is very dope. The verses are nicely done and add a certain flavor only Scum could bring. The hook is simple and complex all at the same time. 3.5/5

Final Thoughts Ft Playboy the Beast- This beat is another unique and interesting one. The flow of Scum’s verse is a little choppy but works well with the beat. Playboy gives a solid verse and finishes the track off with fire. 4.3/5

Once Upon A Time- A metal/hip hop hybrid beat is unexpected but very nice. The verses are vicious and work so nicely with the beat. The hook keeps with the aggressive flow and sound of this track. 4.8/5

Fuck Your Corpse Ft Dread Skinny- The beat brings back the very slow flow that has been present a lot in this album but it works after the last track. The verses flow a lot quicker over the slow beat which is a nice change. Dread Skinny contributes to the hook and also gives a verse that rounds the entire track out. 4/5

Snuff-U-Mentary- A hard hitting but simple beat. Scum raps the first part of the track in Russian which is very different but it works. A simple hook that is easy to sing along with works well in this one. The verses make this an enjoyable ending to the entire album. 4.3/5

Overall Rating: 4/5

Conclusion: This album is a very string heavy album and it works a majority of the time. There are tracks that fade into the background due to the beats sounding too similar to others. There are also tracks that have such a unique sound in the beat they instantly catch the listeners attention. Hardcore fans of Scum will not be disappointed at all with this album. At the same time the more casual fan may only find a few tracks that appeal to them. The featured artists are well represented and bring their own unique flavor to their tracks. This album is another entry in what has become an impressive catalogue by one of the underground horrorcore icons.
