Psychopathic Records denies copyright lawsuit by Midnight Syndicate

This morning, our homies at True Juggalo Family put up a link about the lawsuit that Psychopathic Records has been served with by the group Midnight Syndicate.  I’m not sure of all of the details of their past lawsuits, but this one involves Jumpsteady‘s spoken word album The Road.

There’s no doubt that Midnight Syndicate’s tracks were used.  The question is whether or not Psychopathic had been given the consent from Midnight Syndicate to use them.  An article from Cleveland.com documents Psychopathic’s response.  Check that out below:

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The owners of Insane Clown Posse’s record label is denying allegations that it used songs from a Chardon-based goth band without the group’s permission on a 2013 spoken-word album.

In a response filed Friday in federal court, rappers Jumpsteady and Violent J- brothers Robert and Joseph Bruce denied using samples from 31 Midnight Syndicate songs on Jumpsteady’s 2013 album “The Road and Other True Stories.”

The rappers also say that The Midnight Syndicate is acting in bad faith and the lawsuit should be dismissed.

The Midnight Syndicate filed its suit in February, alleging that the “vast majority” of the music on “The Road” came from unauthorized samples.

The Insane Clown Posse’s Michigan-based label, Psychopathic Records, is also named as a defendant.

The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Patricia Gaughan.

The Insane Clown Posse, which also includes Joseph “Shaggy 2 Dope” Utsler, has gained notoriety through songs that often have over-the-top violent lyrics. Its musical empire has grown, though, as the duo and Robert Bruce have signed similar artists to Psychopathic Records.

Its fan base, known as “Juggalos”, attend concerts with their faces painted like those in the band. The band’s annual “Gathering of the Juggalos” festival will be held in July in Thornville, east of Columbus.

The FBI labeled the Juggalos as a “hybrid gang” in 2011, citing in a report that many of the fans “exhibit gang-like behavior and engage in criminal activity and violence.”

What the FUCK does the second half of that “article” have to do with the headline?!

Everything else after, “The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Patricia Gaughan.”, is a bunch of pricky bullshit!
