Juggalos rejoice: Insane Clown Posse makes Golden Valley stop

Calling all Juggalos. Here’s your chance to meet your heroes up close and personal.

Detroit rap duo Insane Clown Posse released their latest album, “The Marvelous Missing Link: Lost,” this week and are celebrating by spending the next month on the road, hitting 19 record stores for CD signings. They’ll visit Golden Valley’s Down in the Valley at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The group will also “unveil exclusive merchandise” and promise to “stay until every Juggalo in attendance has a chance to meet them and get one item signed.”

The pair emerged from Detroit’s underground hip-hop scene in the early ’90s and spent several years recording for major labels before returning to their independent roots.

In 2000, they founded the annual Gathering of the Juggalos, a concert event they likened to Woodstock. The 15th gathering took place over five days last July in rural Ohio and featured 70 acts, including Cypress Hill, Cannibal Corpse, Kottonmouth Kings and comedian Gilbert Gottfried.

In a 2011 report, the FBI listed Insane Clown Posse’s fanbase as a “loosely organized hybrid gang.” The duo sued the FBI in response and the matter is currently in the courts.

As for the new album, Violent J (aka Joseph Bruce) told Billboard: “(It) is a really intense, dark record. There’s no comedy on it, and ICP is known for comedy. It’s about life without hope or without faith, and it’s just fast and pulse-pounding beats and dark.

For me, it’s about not having God in your life and being lost and worrying about death, worrying about everything, like you’re missing a link.”Its follow-up, “The Marvelous Missing Link: Found,” is due out in July to coincide with this year’s Gathering of the Juggalos.
