From Metro Times Detroit:

Q: What’s your take on the spiritual or religious aspect of the Dark Carnival mythos?

A: At the end of the day, it’s apparent that the Insane Clown Posse believes in God. They understand that there is definitely a higher power. And although this is a touchy subject, my friend, there is also the Dark Carnival, which is led by the Ringmaster. And it’s all about karma, built on positive and negative energy. And that’s basically where the Hatchet Man comes into play. You have a choice. In all walks of life, you can either be on the dark side or walk in the light. Whether you do or you don’t believe, that’s up to you as an individual.

Even up until the late ’90s, you might wonder where ICP’s beliefs were. A lot of the cats that had been down with them for a long time got kind of skittish when all of a sudden they were like, “Yeah, you know, the truth is we follow God. He’s always been behind this. The Carnival is God, may all Juggalos find him.” That’s word for word their lyric. You know what I mean? May all Juggalos find him, and this is all thanks to God. I mean, that’s right there in “Shangri-La.” It’s amazing. And that turned off some. But for those that it turned off, they’ve gained so many that it’s not even funny.
