Investigators Say Fatally-Shot Teen Was Breaking Into Home, Wearing ICP Mask *Updated*

Unfortunately, i have some negative news to write about that involves the mention of ICP. According to reports, 17-year-old Reb Barbee, who was attempting to rob a home with a knife, while wearing a ICP mask has died from a gun shot wound.

The homeowner of the house he was attempting to rob ended up shooting Reb in her living room. Three other teenagers will be facing charges of  murder related to his death. They are being charged with murder because in Ohio, laws allow co-conspirators to be charged with murder if someone dies. You can check out a few news articles below.

From Dispatch.com:

A 17-year-old boy was burglarizing a house in Prairie Township when the homeowner shot and killed him early on Saturday, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said this afternoon.

Reb Barbee was armed with a knife and wearing an Insane Clown Posse mask when he was shot in the living room of 8798 Hubard Dr. S, investigators said.

The homeowner, Heather Tackett, didn’t call 911, Scott said. She told investigators she didn’t realize she’d hit someone.

Tackett and Barbee knew each other from the neighborhood, Scott said.

Barbee, shot in the shoulder, and three other youths ran about a half-mile to Barbee’s home on Dovalon Place, and waited an hour before calling for help around 6 a.m., investigators said.

Barbee died shortly after arriving at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital.

The complaints against the other three say they helped Barbee enter the house through a window.

Brandon J. Hamilton and Tyler R. Blazer, both 17, are charged with delinquency counts of complicity to aggravated burglary.

Adam D. Pickens, 18, faces the adult charge of complicity to aggravated burglary. He appeared in court this morning, with bail set at $250,000.

Scott said murder charges will be filed against the three this afternoon. Ohio law allows co-conspirators to be charged with murder if someone dies while committing a first-or second-degree felony such as robbery or burglary.

From bearingarms.com:

A woman in Prairie Township, Ohio shot at a home invader wearing an Insane Clown Posse mask before dawn Saturday morning, and inexplicably didn’t call 911 because she thought she missed her target.

It turns out that she didn’t miss:

A 17-year-old boy was burglarizing a house in Prairie Township when the homeowner shot and killed him early on Saturday, Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said this afternoon.

Reb Barbee was armed with a knife and wearing an Insane Clown Posse mask when he was shot in the living room of 8798 Hubard Dr. S, investigators said.

Tackett and Barbee knew each other from the neighborhood, Scott said.

Barbee died shortly after arriving at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital.

This is a crime that turned into a death because of the compounded stupidity of young criminals. In all likelihood, Reb Barbee would have lived if he had received prompt medical attention. Instead, he and his accomplices fled more than a half mile to Barbee’s home and did not call to get him medical attention for nearly an hour.

The emerging story of a home invasion gone wrong is radically different from an earlier version of events, in which Barbee was presented as a good kid who was “murdered” for no apparent reason.

Grief stricken family and friends are trying to make sense of the shooting death of 17 year-old Reb Barbee.

Authorities are releasing few details about the murder, but neighbors say the teenager was shot on Lakefield Drive in Galloway around 5 a.m. Sunday.

Family friends said the victim managed to stumble back to his home on Dovalon Court, leaving behind a trail of blood on the street.

Neighbor Sheila Williams said she got the news from the teen’s mother and was heartbroken.

“Please tell me it is not true and she said yes it is,” said Williams. “He was shot in the back.”

Barbee attended Tolles Technical Center in Plain City with his childhood friend Robert Wadsworth.

He was in tears after learning about Barbee’s murder and said things like this don’t happen in Galloway.

“To see this going on in my own neighborhood, I don’t know what to think,” said Wadsworth. “He’s been my elementary school buddy for life. I rode the bus growing up with him.”

Barbee’s accomplices will be charged with murder today for Barbee’s death under the state’s implementation of the felony murder rule.

Neighbors said that Barbee was a “good kid” that had recently started hanging out with a bad crowd. It appears that this “bad crowd” let him die.

UPDATE:

From The Columbus Dispatch:

Heather Tackett says she didn’t know who the person was behind the Insane Clown Posse mask, standing with a knife over her 17-year-old son in her Prairie Township living room just after 4 a.m. on Sunday.

She screamed at the intruder, clutching her boyfriend’s .38 revolver.

Tackett fired one shot, she recalled yesterday, before the intruder fled through her backyard.

It wasn’t until hours later — on Sunday afternoon — that Franklin County deputies came to her house and she discovered the person she’d shot was a teenage boy who’d been friends with her son. She had fed him dinner; he’d stayed overnight in her home.

“I am devastated,” Tackett said. “I really liked that kid and I was really good to him, and it breaks my heart he’d enter my home like that.”

Investigators say that Reb Barbee, 17, was behind the mask and had three friends help him sneak through a second-floor window of 8798 Hubbard Dr. S.

Despite a gunshot wound in his upper back, Barbee ran with his friends about a half-mile back to Barbee’s house at 635 Dovalon Place.

Nobody called 911. Not until an hour later, at 5:14 a.m. when Adam Pickens picked up the phone.

“Uh, I have a shot friend,” the 18-year-old told the dispatcher. “I really don’t know what to say.”

Pickens claimed he didn’t know what happened.

“I didn’t want to get him in trouble,” Pickens said.

Medics took Barbee to OhioHealth Doctors Hospital. He was pronounced dead there just after 6 a.m.

Nobody answered the door at Barbee’s house yesterday afternoon. He was a student in Tolles Career and Technical Center’s welding program.

Their friend dead, Pickens and two other youths, Brandon J. Hamilton and Tyler R. Blazer, both 17, were arrested. Hamilton and Blazer are facing delinquency counts of murder and complicity to aggravated burglary. Pickens is facing those same charges in adult court and is being held on $250,000 bond.

“If they would have got him help, we wouldn’t be talking about murder charges,” Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott said. “It was a bad decision on top of a bad decision.”

Scott said the prosecutor’s office will determine whether Tackett should face charges in Barbee’s death.

Tackett, 37, didn’t call 911. She didn’t think she’d shot anyone, she said. And if she did call, what evidence would deputies find? Barbee was wearing gloves and a mask, she said.

“I would have called had I thought I hit him,” she said.

Tackett thinks Barbee was trying to hurt her 17-year-old son. It had been about a year since Jacob had stopped hanging around with Barbee, Tackett said, because he didn’t like what his friend was getting involved in.

She wishes Barbee had said something when he saw her.

“Had he said, ‘Heather, don’t,’ or, ‘It’s me,’ or ‘Jake,’ or something to one of us,” she said, “ the situation would be very different.”

Wearing an ICP mask and being a Juggalo are two different things.
Don’t break into other people’s residences and this won’t happen.
