When Michigan Horrorcore Legend KGP joined SCE back in 2012, It was only a matter of time before The UnGod of SagNasty would team up with that chainsaw swingin’ psychopath from Albuquerque known as Bloodshot for a collaboration album. The announcement was made on March 29th on the live SCE Podcast hosted by the ultra-violent duo complete with a release date and everything. The album came out a few weeks ago and now it’s time for the review of Alias Grim‘s debut LP: “Decapitated Faces”

The term “HorrorCrunk” is used A LOT on this release. And that term is definitely expressed well on this album. A mix of horrorcore lyrics and extreme rap vocals laced with beats that you could drink, get high, and fight in the club to (Hip Hop lesson here boys and girls, the original meaning of “Crunk” was Fight Music or “Tear Da Club Up” as made famous by Three 6 Mafia). The opening track “Live by the Saw” is an example of this style of music. The song itself has the main battlecry for SCE all over the hook (That’s “SAW’S UP!” for those unfamiliar) making this the 2014 SCE anthem.

Another song that has that style all over it would be “Grim” featuring LSP’s Smallz One. Grim also has a very catchy hook and if you ain’t seen the video yet, you might want to. “Grim” could be one of those classic horrorcore songs that could crossover to the mainstream. The title track itself is classic wicked shit for sure. Complete with the topics  familiar with horrorcore fans from body parts scattered to detailed murder plans, that’s the kind of horrorcore I personally like. The more violent, the better. I get a special feeling every time I hear ultraviolent horrorcore raps!

“Prey” is a song title that long-time KGP fans like myself might recognize if you’re familiar with  classic KGP releases such as Necrology and Tha UnGod. The hook is lyrics from the classic track, but the vocals contain ALL NEW lyrics with extreme horror from Kap and Shot.

“4WayStop” (featuring Mr. Sche) almost has that classic Three 6 Mafia feel to it as far as the beat goes. It’s a very likable track, and you get to hear a new cat you may have never heard before by the name of Mr. Sche out of Memphis, Tennessee. I think we might want to keep an eye out on Mr. Sche over the next few years. This song falls more into the “Thug Shit/Gangsta Rap” categories than that of the horrorcore genre.

“Trunk Full of Dead Cunts” is classick Kap-G at it’s best. Bloodshot just makes the song just extra special with Kap doing what Kap does best: making a great thumping beat with violent and gruesome raps.

The same can be said with the final track on the album: “Chop They Head Off”. “Chop They Head Off” has another catchy hook that if performed live would get the crowd hype!. The lyrics and the presentation also have that same feeling. If I didn’t have to move into a house with 4-5 people living with me, I would be screaming to the hook as well.

The Cover art is pretty fucking awesome. It almost reminds me of some classic horror movies like Dr. Butcher M.D., Dr. Giggles, and a touch of the Saw movies. The cover was done by Mottla Brutal Art where everything else was done by KGP (including the photo of the duo in the back of the CD booklet). The one thing that confused me was why are there 2 Barcodes on the back CD spine for? I got Kap on my facebook so this might have to be a question I might have to send him in the future.

All in all Alias Grim‘s Decapitated Faces is a dope horror CD to start the summer off with some great music! The music is “back of the trunk” friendly while maintaining that “for a certain type of people only” feel to it. In this person’s humble opinion, Alias Grim is a breath of fresh air for hip hop.  I feel that can be said because the rap genre fell on its ass back in 2007 and has done nothing to step up its game. And since Dr. Dre’s 2 damn busy being hip hop’s first billionaire to give us Detox, Alias Grim can proudly carry the torch and change the entire industry for the better. Decapitated Faces could very well be the rap album of the year, and we’re only halfway done with 2014!
