Twiztid Q&A: “We Are Music’s Best Kept Secret”

Fame Magazine recently conducted an interview with Madrox of Twiztid. In this interview Madrox discuss Twiztid’s recent mixtape “For the Fam volume 2”, his early days, the Bootleg Banner Tour and more.

Madrox also tells you 5 things you should know about Twiztid. You can check out the full interview below.

From Famemagazine.co.uk:

Detroit Hip-Hop duo Twiztid – Jamie Madrox and Monoxide – just released ‘For The Fam Volume 2′ free mixtape and their ‘Get Twiztid’ EP via INgrooves. The 5 track EP, featuring Chris Webby, Da Mafia 6ix, Kung Fu Vampire, R.A. The Rugged Man, and Whitney Peyton, gives fans a small taste of what is to come for Twiztid in 2014.

Twiztid’s ‘Bootleg Banner Tour 2014′ (with special guests Blaze Ya Dead Homie & Smokehouse Junkiez) just kicked off in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. So there’s no better time to talk with Jamie Madrox about their theatrical, outrageous, clever and intoxicating dark Hip-Hop…Pinted faces…Saving lives…Senseless jumps from the stage and…Getting drunk with Adam West.

Let’s talk about your new mixtape, 4 The Fam. What were your influences whilst writing this record?

With the 4 The Fam Mixtape as well as pretty much anything we record our influences are usually the fam and us raising the bar so to speak. We always strive to out do our last recordings. This way of thinking always keeps us on top of our game and leaves everyone including us wanting more.

Tell us 5 things we should know about Twiztid

Ok…

  1. We are music’s best kept secret…meaning that unlike mainstream artists you actually have to seek us and our music out -but it’s worth it.
  2. Our music provides a release for our listeners and according to many of them it has “saved their lives” and for that alone I am truly honored.
  3. We are a comic book inspired horror movie on wax.
  4. Not only do we do music but we are actors and business men as well.
  5. We do what we do, and we have all that we have because of the “Family”

Tell us a bit about your early days and how they differ from now.

Much like any profession, you live and learn as you go. We have always been blessed to have that special something that people call “shine” “charisma” or “talent” but we’ve never let that go to our heads. We watched others’ careers go up and down, and studied the greats, soaking up the “how to” remain relevant and hone our craft and always push ourselves to be the absolute best we can be. I think the difference from now to then is that we are more confident entertainers, knowledgeable business men, and seasoned professionals.

Tell us about your tour and why we should be there.

Monoxide and I always put on a good show leaving it all on the stage each and every night for everyone who took the time to represent for us and come out to see us perform. We are the most energetic, foul mouthed, talented painted faces in the game that rock the dead and kick the ass of the living! So if you never been to one of our shows… what the fuck are you waiting for?

What is one unforgettable tour memory?

Many years ago Monoxide and I were playing this huge outdoor show and the stage was kinda far from the barricade. The crowd kept waving their hands as if they were saying “come on dude stage dive over here” or maybe it was the drugs conversating in my mind…. either way I took a senseless jump from the stage and landed chest first on the barricade and slid to the floor like Wile E Coyote from the loony tunes cartoons. I was pushed back on stage by 3 security guards and the chants of “One more time, One more time” peppered the stage from the same area…. so of course my dumb ass jumps chest first on the barricade again. I remember Monoxide being like “good work …yall killed em”, the same 3 security guards put me back on stage and needless to say that’s were I’ve stayed from then on =on stage! lol

What is your favorite thing to see in the audience while you are on stage?

Titties, hands, middle fingers, signs, titties, painted faces…sorry i couldn’t just pick one.

What’s the best and worst thing about playing clubs?

the best thing in my opinion is that clubs provide a level of intimacy. It’s us and the crowd and you can see all their faces… it can be perfect sometimes. The worst thing about it is that Monoxide and I like to aspire to do more theatrical production and with the club scene it can be very hard to fly to stage on tension wires, levitate or have electricity pulsating through giant tesla coils left and right of the stage for example.

What kind of music do you listen to when you are on the road?

Mostly I have the Beatles, MCR, Korn, Slipknot, SevenDust, some R&B & oldies in my playlist, those are my go to joints to unwind at the end of the day.

If you could get drunk with any woman or man, who would it be?

I would honestly have to say Adam West. That guy’s my fucking hero! I can only imagine the dope ass Batman stories he would gratuitously produce after 4 or 17 shots of Patrone.

i dont know if that is so much a fuck you, as a sideways way of laying claim to the title.
which, several times in their career, ive thought they had a reasonable shot at. who knows what we will all be saying two years from now…

I thought throwing the lol in there would let people know I was just being funny. Silly me, thinking I wouldn’t have to explain myself. No fucking shit they weren’t saying fuck you to any of them. It just sounds like one of them things that came out sounded different than intended. I thought it was funny. Jesus jack sinizter..”ummmmmmm” fuck you for that lmao. I’ve seen twiztid live, I’ve seen ICP live and i’d put them at equal in energy and foul mouthedness. I couldn’t put one of them over the other if my life depended on it.
