His latest mixtape, titled God MC, was released in February of 2014 for free. If you’re familiar with T.O.N.E-z and his offerings, then this mixtape will easily please you. If not, then you might have a hard time getting into it. The mixtape clocks in at a little over a half hour, so don’t expect a full length. But this release is mainly for the fans that follow him, and to fill a void until his next album is out.

His producing skills are quite remarkable. He obviously takes his time to make unique beats for his songs. Tracks such as “I’m Better” and “Ayo Homies” has a party vibe to it, but still goes hard. Other tracks simply samples other known songs. “Make You a Believer” is from a 50 Cent song, but T.O.N.E-z without a doubt makes it his own. The track “Wanna Play” is interesting, as he freestyles over the Pac-Man theme song and samples the Saw movies.

Speaking of freestyles, there are a few tracks that showcases T.O.N.E-z lyrical skills. “Wanna Play” and “I’m Better” are good examples. His freestyling is quite on spot, and he rarely struggles to spit out lines. In terms of the other songs, he doesn’t venture too far off from his usual themes. Over half of the songs has him writing about him being superior to other players in the rap game, or how he’s different from the rest. “No Gimmicks” revolves around how he doesn’t need a gimmick to get over in the rap game, and can only rely on his skills. “Illuminated” has him flashing a spotlight on himself and disowning anyone else that claims they’re better. I’m not up to date on beefs and feuds, but if T.O.N.E-z doesn’t have any current enemies, then he’s surely looking for someone to test him.

A few other beats take a backseat, and just is low in volume overall. “Walk in My Shoes” and “I Shrug’em” are good examples, but maybe its because they’re heavily sampled, and T.O.N.E-z would rather showcase his vocals rather than the beat itself.

But I’m not shooting down this release because of his lack of lyrical diversity. This mixtape isn’t aimed to win any fans over. As previously mentioned, its to satisfy his current fanbase and to hold them over until his next album. So this isn’t a horrible release by any means, but if you’re trying to find a starting ground with his music, this isn’t the release to start with.
