GQ and the Insane Clown Posse
Out of history’s extensive back catalog of whack MCs, GQ singles out the Insane Clown Posse, Shaggy 2 Dope and Violent J, as the “Worst Rappers of All Time.” C’mon.
“The KISS-style makeup there two self-anointed ‘wicked clowns’ wear is a tip-off –they live to sell products, from DVDs to comic books, to the tune of millions of dollars annually. Like most d-bags, they’re predictable: Ample use of the words fuck, psycho, and fuck attracts a devoted fan-clan, and their annual festival has included, yep, Vanilla Ice.”
First, most of the d-bags I know are d-bags because they are unpredictable. Predictability may be boring, but it’s not really a sign of d-baggery.
Let’s break it down: GQ is no different from the IRS. It’s targeting a conservative group. Greedy? Forbes has an annual list that ranks the richest people in rap, and Jay-Z is selling an album in conjunction with a cell phone company, so you can’t tell me flipping a buck off of music is a bad thing.
As for ICP’s supposed infatuation with “f” word:
At least ICP’s song is about alienation and the haterz. ICP is just verbalizing the struggle.
GQ isn’t the only group who has attacked the Juggalos. ICP has been an easy scapegoat by liberal outlets throughout their decades-long career.
Last year the FBI labeled ICP and their fans “a loosely-organized hybrid gang” and said they “exhibit gang-like behavior and engage in criminal activity and violence.” ICP sued.
The group was tormented in 2010 for releasing a pro-creationism track that bucked the trends of their usual violent fare.
But really, all this is beside the point. According to GQ, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope are worse rappers than Spencer Pratt.
This is the same mag that had Naomi Campbell interview Vladimir Putin about his physical fitness.
I rest my case.
